Apple Santa
Today's
Snack: If you start off this After School Treat with not one but two hard
and juicy red apples, you can eat one as a snack, and make the other one into a
Santa!
--------------------
Supplies:
- A large, hard, round red apple
- Glue or a hot-glue gun
- Red construction paper cut into a triangle with a 5"
base and 4" sides
(measure 4" along the sides of a corner and draw a line across)
- A bit of thin, white cotton batting
- Two cotton balls
- A few large marshmallows
- Two whole cloves, mini chocolate chips or beads (eyes)
- One red-hot cinnamon candy or other small item (nose)
- Four red gumdrops or hollow beads (arms and legs)
- Toothpicks
If
homemade Christmas decorations are the apple of your eye, you'll love making
this fresh and cheerful little Santa.
Cut
the cotton batting into a long 1/2" strip. Glue around the center of the apple
as Santa's belt. If you're using hot glue, be sure to have an adult's
supervision so you don't get burned! Santa would CRY!
Snip
marshmallows in half. Put a gumdrop or bead on top of a marshmallow half and
stick a toothpick through both into the apple to make an "arm."
Repeat
on the other side.
Repeat
with two "feet" made of a gumdrop or bead and marshmallow half positioned with
a toothpick at about 7 o'clock and 5 o'clock on the base of the apple.
With
a toothpick, attach a whole marshmallow onto the top of the apple for a "head."
Stick whole cloves in as eyes, or glue on beads, or use regular glue with mini
chocolate chips since the hot glue would melt them. Glue the red hot on as a
nose.
Pull
one cotton ball out and shape as a beard, then glue on.
Cut
another short strip of batting about ¼-inch tall and glue it onto the 5" base
of the piece of construction paper. It will be the "fur fringe" around Santa's
hat.
Roll
a small bit of remaining cotton around in your palms into a ball, and glue on
the top point. Then wrap the two points together and glue at back for Santa's
pointed "hat."
Makes
a great gift and a great table decoration!
